Wolfie was born on February 2, 2013! He was born with deformed front legs that inhibit him from walking normally. When brought to the vet it was recommend that he be euthanized because they believed he wouldn't be able to live a "normal life".

Wolfie was born on February 2, 2013 with deformed front legs. His condition inhib...its him from walking normally, however it does not currently deter him from his puppy ways. This page is intended to share his story and mark his progress, as he will most likely need surgeries to improve his mobility.

It's a miracle Loni is even alive. He was 7 weeks old in a scary shelter and tested positive for panleukemia. He was about to be euthanized but by some miracle there was a delay in doing so. I happened to show up at the shelter and although going to see a cat a few cages down I saw him and couldn't resist. He was said to be a hissy kitten but I picked him right up and he melted in my arms. Knowing... he tested positive for panleuk I still made the decision to take a chance to save his life. After a week of treatment Loni tested negative. A week later from that happy day, suddenly Loni was stuggling to walk with his hind legs which soon left them paralyzed with very little feeling in them. Loni had weekly vet visits testing and retesting with no solid explanation. For three weeks he just pulled himself around. Week four after hope was almost lost.. he started to crawl. Falling a lot but he was moving the legs and crawling on his knees. It slowly progressed. Week five Loni was still crawling around. Week six he would try to use his feet but he couldn't place his paws down... he would attempt to walk on the backs of his paws. Week seven was the same although this determined little soul would force himself to stand at his bowl. He still couldn't walk or end take steps without falling. Not to mention for all these weeks he's unable to use the litterbox. Week eight was a happy one.. Loni started to take steps...

Loni has progressed a lot in 2 months. From not being able to use his back legs at all to being fairly mobile and able to stand and slowly take a few steps. Loni has seen four different vets with many visit and many tests and treatments. He is still being treated and although I don't want to get my heart set on it he is expected to fully recover. It may be months down the road but all that matters is that he recovers. measure: A 6.5 B 3.5 C 2+ D 4 E 3

Help Reunion Rescue build a world class dog center

We are building Doglandia from shipping containers!

We are sick and tired of all the killing. Too many dogs are dying and our work posting and saving isn't
enough.

Reunion Rescue has an excellent program and operates the world's only no kill holistic raw feeding pit bull refuge. We have launched a lofty endeavor and it's called Doglandia!

Reunion Rescue is currently raising funds to build a splashy ostentatious holistic dog center on the beach.

Not cheap, but we can do it!

Doglandia will house:

• 7-day a week dog training with a behavior certification program
• boarding facility for dogs and doggy day-care
• a raw food store 
• an herbal shop with homeopathy and holistic treatment available
• a do-it-yourself dog wash 
• a pet supply center
• rescue facility and adoption 
• volunteer program with behavior certification 
• activity and training site

Imagine a one-stop shopping center for dogs.....spend a day at the beach, pick up holistic raw food, drop in for training, adopt a new friend, stock up on supplies and treat just about any malady with herbs and homeopathy from the Herbal Animal.

We have big plans, but there is also a big problem. Doglandia and Reunion Rescue have all the answers, but we need your help to put our plan into action.

Doglandia will incorporate Reunion Rescue's plan to lower numbers entering the shelters. We've already enacted Wobbies (Wobbies declares war on backyard breeders in every state) which reports backyard breeding to local municipalities with follow up to insure these offenders are registering pets being sold and properly vetting and licensing.

With an on-site internationally known facility where advocates can train in canine behavior, become certified and observe Reunion Rescue's raw feeding and holistic program, we can show other communities anywhere how to lower numbers while healing and caring for local animals in need. Imagine a Doglandia in every town....a very nice way for the communities to help their local over-crowded shelters. These animals don't need to die and Doglandia has a sound plan.

We just need your help to put it into action.

Phase I: We are raising the money to buy land in Northern California where a pilot operation like Doglandia will absolutely work. 

Phase II: Once the land is purchased, we will sell our current home and business to help fund construction. Doglandia will be built using shipping containers. We already have an architect with shipping container experience.

Everyone loves the idea of Doglandia, but we can't do this without help.

Please consider donating a dollar and sharing our chip in with five friends. Ask those five friends to do
the same. A dollar isn't much, but working together, we can really do this and change the world one dog at a time....the same way Reunion Rescue has been doing for the last 15 plus years.

150 animals in jeopardy when Texas shelter closes its doors

The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake is being forced to consider closing it’s doors, after 30 years of serving the surrounding community, and saving thousands and thousands of lives, due to lack of funding.  We had requested increases in our contracts from Henderson and Kaufman Counties and both requests were denied.  Over the last two years, we have seen private donations dramatically decrease and our fund raising efforts have not kept up with the demand on our cash flow.  

We currently have funds to see us through the next 3 weeks.  If we can not find a long term solution in that time, we will be forced to close our doors to the 3500 to 4000 homeless pets that we care for every year thus putting there lives in jeopardy.

We are now immediately reaching out to the rescue 150 animals that are still in our custody, when we are forced to close the doors, will have to be euthanized.  We certainly hope that we do not have to close our doors.  But it is a very real possibility.  And we want to be proactive in getting as many pet as possible into a safe alternative.

  Looks like one may be a chow/Jindo. They are afraid!  Can anyone help?  We all know dogs that show behavior like this at shelters and are fine once out and loved. Please network as beyond urgent. See below. 

A1268772 – Chow Corgi – Needs placement by tomorrow at 7 pm.  Hides in back of the cage and growls.  Charges staff when they enter the cage for cleaning/feeding.  There is definitely some type of shorter breed mixed in.  These are the best photos I could get.

A1268876 – Has mammary mass, possibly tumor.  Needs placement with rescue now.  Will likely not
be extended due to medical issue and temperament.  Is not currently set for euthanasia, but could be at any time.

Yesterday, our good friend Kathi from Simply Stylish and longtime Reunion supporter paid us a wonderful visit. Reunion got a little taste of how great life could be if we had a volunteer or two.

Kathi performed reiki on all the dogs and cats and we went on two glorious dog walks.

Monday morning coming down

Last weekend was typical of rescue life. After transporting Quentin all the way from Lodi, getting him settled in his new home with mom Tara, new crate, starting a new raw diet, learning the Kong, attending his first Better Way Dog Training class with Bob Gutierrez, Tara's landlord changes his mind about her having a pet.

In tears, Tara called to say she didn't think it was going to be possible to keep Quentin. Now, even though we knew Quentin was in the perfect place for him, Reunion Rescue has a lifelong returns policy. We got on the horn and called out the troups. Jess and Jaime who're longtime Reunion adopters offered to foster Quentin while we seek that perfect home.

I knew exactly what Tara was experiencing. Inside, we are all that little girl with a mean man trying to take away the puppy. Who hasn't been there? Reunion has a saying, 'always walk out with the dog.' Here was an opportunity to put those words to work.

Since Quentin was now situated temporarily, we got busy again with the very complicated process of trying to ship Spuds, our blind boy, from Lodi here to Reunion Rescue No-Kill Refuge where we can treat his joint issues and eyes with raw diet and homeopathy. What the heck, we had one option with On Wings of Care who would fly Spuds, but with only Spuds and another dog, the cost of fuel between $1800 and $2000. We made a decision on the fly to go ahead and bring Guido, too. We are still looking for other dogs needing transport either from California to Texas or back to California from Texas. Each passenger lowers the cost which is split according to how many dogs are flown.

I called Bonny at On Wings of Care and told her to go ahead and pencil us in. By the way, I hadn't cleared it with my significant other, Scott, but figured I'd 'wing' it...literally operating on a wing and a prayer. I have learned over the years in rescue to just try and do the next right thing and we'll be carried. It always happens that way.

After all this was settled, I sat down with Scott and made him a proposition. Even though we're operating on overload right now, literally a two bedroom house operating as a de-facto shelter with no big money grants and free Toyotas...I drive an old '98 Jeep Cherokee that holds two crates on a good day. It was truly a hard sell.

I pitched it like this. Give me two days to try and make it work with Spuds and Guido. If it's too much and I can't pull it off, I'll either board Guido or find a foster home. He's a mush-melon of a staffie bully boy and very easy, just wanting to sit around and cuddle.

I can't believe it, but Scott caved in. I was honest about something else, too. I've been hoarding Amber. After what happened with Stella dying at Spindletop and all the horror surrounding the raid, Amber has been my little rock. We have held onto each other and made it through a terrible time. I haven't wanted to give her up. In fact, the thought of adopting Amber makes me cry. It's selfish on my part and against what rescue is truly about. She needs her own home and her own people. It is wrong of me to try and keep her.

So, I promised Scott I would revamp Amber's adoption link and really start trying to find her that perfect home. After this heart to heart talk, two things happened.

First, Brett who's fostering to adopt Pip with significant other, Jenny, texted me a photograph of Pip in her own home on her brand new plush dog bed. Pip was with me for four years and made it out of three very high kill shelters. She is truly a survivor and proof that there is a perfect home for every dog if we just believe.

The next thing blew my socks off. Tara called. She had been cuddling on her sofa with Quentin for 6 hours petting him and crying. In San Francisco, luckily, there is huge support for tenants and their companion animals. Tara had been doing her research and is securing documentation to keep Quentin. She asked if she could have one more week with him to try and make this happen.

Wow. All I can say is, wow. These events all pretty much happened without my doing. It's hard in my world to step back and let nature take its course, but geez, Louise, sometimes it really does work.

BeBe, by the way got Pip's old digs and has her own house with cable tv. We watched 'The Color Purple' Saturday night since Pit Bulls and Parolees were on Thanksgiving holiday. It's good to take the time to sit down like a normal person with their dog and just watch a tearjerker old movie. Wednesday, we've got a date to watch Gone With the Wind. BeBe has never seen it and I think she's really gonna like Prissy. I wish she was dog friendly so Amber could join us in her red satin-teen collar like Mammy's scarlet red petticoat, but we'll have to try that experiment another time.

Before I could explode, I got a sweet letter from Ken and Steaven who recently adopted Buster with a photo of Buster and his baby octopus. It keeps getting better and better.

I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. I am really blessed to have these beautiful creatures in my life and a purpose. I am grateful that Spuds and Guido will be joining us. I'm happy that Nolan is getting better every day, running in the yard. Peanut got BeBe's old crate spot and he seems a little more settled in his own protected area.

Last night, I broke out the Kong donation box I'd been attempting to have a half-ass raffle giveaway, and gave the prizes to Amber, Peanut and BeBe. They acted like they'd won the lotto, but the big winner is me.

Vet's Toxic Email to Girl

We have a local vet around the corner who doesn't plain get it. This morning, I got an email from the office reminding me to bring Girl in for the following:

According to our records Girl is now due for a wellness exam. 

We show Girl is due for the following treatments:

I was astounded. The only answer I could come up with and answered with was 'are you kidding me?' 

What is going on? Girl is almost 15 years old and doing great. The last time she went to this particular vet was for blood work. According to the vet, Girl was dying and could not be helped. 'Get ready to say goodbye,' was his advice.

Please don't vaccinate me!

Well, she certainly isn't going to be helped with all those vaccinations which have been proved to cause cancer and all kinds of other diseases. Girl was treated for her infection by her homeopathic physician and she is thriving and living large...emphasis on living.

What kind of 'doctor' would over-vaccinate a senior dog, one he had written off as dying a few months ago?

Fortunately some states have lightened up on the vaccine laws and allow titers and deferments for senior and ailing animals.

Will Texas ever get there? Hopefully, but when and if these dumb laws are changed, what is this vet going to do? Start to actually learn to heal animals? What a notion.

Until then, Girl and none of the other animals here will be returning to this vet. They would rather live than die an terribly early death caused from too many shots from this doctor.
