Lone Star Pet Vet takes care of your pets in the home

After years and years of terrible vet experiences, some detailed in my book Pit Bull Nation, Reunion Rescue has discovered a wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Kelly Breazeale who owns Lone Star Pet Vet.

Yesterday, Dr. Kelly and her partner and husband Jim came over and vaccinated, checked up and microchipped some of the dogs who'd been missed at the shelter. Here's the caveat. Most of your know about the abused dogs we help. Like LuLu, Mannie, Paolo and Cricket who came from a horrible Bakersfield cruelty case. And Wally who we think from his behavior was sexually abused repeatedly. In fact, all of our boys and girls here at Reunion are here because the needed a place to live their lives in safety where they know they'll never be hurt again.

I couldn't believe how gentle Jim and Dr. Kelly were with the animals. Like I said, I've had incompetent vets and doctors in my own life, so I know how it feels to have somebody poke on you and become irritated and short-tempered during an appointment. Dr. Breazeale is everything the opposite. Like have a good friendly neighbor you trust who just happens to have a veterinarian license. Can I say again how LONG I've waited to find a good vet I can trust these animals with?

Now, not to say there wasn't a little growling, but the one I was worried about the most, Mannie, went first. We muzzled everybody just to be on the safe side, but Mannie didn't growl once. She looked at me and I knew she was trying with all her heart to trust me. She was such a good girl. They all followed suit, LuLu, then Cricket and last from that bunch, Paolo.

What's great about Dr. Breazeale and Lone Star Pet Vet is they come to the privacy and comfort of your own home. Can I tell you what a huge relief it is to know these dogs who've never known kindness and safety can get their medical needs and care right here at Reunion Rescue from loving, gentle people who GET animals.

All of the dogs got to meet Dr. Breazeale and Jim, got their shots, exams and votes of good health with a minimum of annoyance. I'm sure they'd have preferred getting the ball tossed or a chew toy, but rest assured, everybody got lots of cookies and treats for being such good boys and girls. They all could probably stand to lose a couple of pounds, but I can't help but spoil them. My bad.

Side note...Dr. Breazeale and Jim have a cattle dog (like Cracker Jack) for all ya'll Cracker Jack fans.

Lone Star Pet Vet offers the following services:

  • Wellness Exams
  • Routine Preventative Care
  • Vaccinations
  • Minor Medical Care
  • Parasite Prevention
  • Microchipping
  • Pain Management
  • Routine Diagnostic Testing
  • Puppy and Kitten Care
  • End of Life Care
  • Prescription Medication

Thank you Dr. Breazeale and Jim for the fantastic visit and gentle, loving care for the Reunion Rescue dogs. We are your new biggest fans...see ya' next time!

#themtoo movement for animals at risk under Trump

The Trump administration is currently doing away with all protection for animals. One by one, animal programs are being wiped out with a simple signature courtesy of Donald J. Trump.

Trump's appointed pick as Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, tweets regularly about hunting and even installed a hunting and killing video game in the cafeteria.

The Trump sons, Don Jr. and Eric, love killing animals and post photos of their activities all over social media, often donning the offspring in look-alike hunting gear.

One of the most truly evil Trump moves has been to authorize the killing of hibernating bears and wolf pups.

Practically no animal does not come under fire.

"The United State Department of Agriculture removed public access to tens of thousands of reports that document the numbers of animals kept by research labs, companies, zoos, circuses, and animal transporters—and whether those animals are being treated humanely under the Animal Welfare Act. The same goes for inspection reports under the Horse Protection Act, which prohibits injuring horses’ hooves or legs for show.

The agency said in a statement that it revoked public access to the reports “based on our commitment to being transparent … and maintaining the privacy rights of individuals.”
Killed while hibernating

According to Science Magazine, "inspection reports contain little, if any, personal information about individuals. Although the act covers animals like dogs and chimpanzees, it does not cover rodents like laboratory mice. The Humane Society of the United States said in a statement: “This action benefits no one, except facilities who have harmed animals and don’t want anyone to know.”

Wild horses are under the gun, too. In a recent Washington Post article, "It’s an escalating equine-
population problem, and the fiscal 2018 budget President Trump proposed this week suggests a solution: using “humane euthanasia and unrestricted sale of certain excess animals.”

Think for minute about the Trump plan to escalate drug testing. Are you aware of what this means to animals? Animals like beagles and other dogs. Cats and rabbits. Monkeys. Already, under the Trump administration, protection has been removed for these companion pets.

According to a piece in Science Magazine, "The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today removed public access to tens of thousands of reports that document the numbers of animals kept by research labs, companies, zoos, circuses, and animal transporters—and whether those animals are being treated humanely under the Animal Welfare Act. Henceforth, those wanting access to the information will need to file a Freedom of Information Act request. The same goes for inspection reports under the Horse Protection Act, which prohibits injuring horses’ hooves or legs for show.

The agency said in a statement that it revoked public access to the reports “based on our commitment to being transparent … and maintaining the privacy rights of individuals.”

We are living in the stuff of horror movies. Safekeeping is being removed from the very beings we are entrusted to protect. What kind of society do we live in? The president's daughter, Ivanka, who presides over much of this decision-making owns companies that perform horrible tests on animals. Ivanka Trump's company also sells millions of hats made from skinned rabbits, many skinned while still alive. Both Donald and Melania Trump own cosmetics companies that test on beagles and other pets.

This is not ok. Most Americans do not approve of the horrible treatment of animals under the Trump administration. Show your support by sharing #themtoo.

Your president is an animal abuser

Yesterday, President Trump and his wife, Melania, a former model of sorts, launched a plan to fund a huge effort in their war on drugs. One of their main objectives is to make huge tax-free funds available to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop non-addictive pain killers. What most pet owning and animal loving Americans do not know is how these drugs are developed.

House cats, little beagles and other dogs, primates, rabbits, guinea pigs and white mice among others are tortured beyond any reasonable understanding day in and day out. And, you pay for it!

Mr. and Mrs. Trump have a long history of animal abuse. Sandwiched between the groping and the nude modeling, both Trumps created perfume and skin-care companies that routinely torture millons of animals to sell product. Animal abuse is no stranger to these two. Both Trumps gave lengthy speeches citing addicts to drum up sympathy for their launch.

"At my direction, the National Institute of Health, headed up by Francis Collins, has taken the first steps of an ambitious public-private partnership with pharmaceutical companies to develop non-addictive painkillers and new treatments for addiction and overdose.  So important.  (Applause.)
I will be pushing the concept of non-addictive painkillers very, very hard.  We have to come up with that solution.  We give away billions and billions of dollars a year, and we're going to be spending lots of money on coming up with a non-addictive solution." Translation, willing to spend billions more performing hideously cruel tests on animals.

The NIH explains its work as 'exciting'.

"This is an exciting time for medical research. Every day, NIH-funded scientists make advances that will lead to safe and useful drugs, therapies, and cures. These advances are due to many different kinds of research, from the laboratory bench, to computers, to animals - including testing in humans."

This Web site provides information reflecting the important role of animals in research and their contributions to the improvement of health and quality of life for both humans and animals. Our goal is to provide key information to the researchers who work daily to improve the Nation’s health, and to the public we serve"

The NIH makes their intention well accessible with tons of online brochures like they're selling time-shares or insurance plans. What they're selling is pain, plain and simple.

Starve 'em:

"Food or caloric restriction is necessary for some of the animal models described. These animals are sometimes maintained below their free-feed weight in an effort to encourage response to food and drug reinforcements. Studies have shown that ad libitum food access does not necessarily provide the optimum feeding conditions, and longer healthier life spans are associated with limited caloric intake across multiple species."

Solitary confinement:

"Often, because the drugs being tested have behavioral effects or because they need to be administered by means of a chronic indwelling device, animals need to be housed singly to safeguard the device or to protect the animals from aggressive behavior that may be associated with a drug effect. This need presents challenges for environmental enrichment. Although some compensation for the lack of cage conspecifics is desirable, enrichment itself can be a variable affecting experimental results and therefore may need to be minimized or avoided if scientifically justified.

The models often require long-term studies in either rodents or nonhuman primates, surgical procedures including chronic instrumentation, food or caloric restriction, specialized housing and testing equipment, substantial use of controlled substances with its associated issues of drug reinforcing behavior and withdrawal symptoms, and administration of novel drugs with potentially unknown clinical effects."

Yeah, exciting stuff, all right. What kind of monsters do this for a living? And, what kind of mega-monsters use the government, federal funds and huge media presence to pitch this kind of abuse?

Maybe you see a guy and his wife shilling for government funded drugs like they've shilled for perfume and cold cream over the years. Maybe, they've gotten pretty good at it.

Public outcry over Alabama animal slaughters

Lawrence County, Alabama rescuers and animal lovers are begging for help. According to locals, the stray and other animals at risk are being euthanized in mass quantities.

Lawrence County commissioner Bobby Burch 'made the motion to show we are serious about (a shelter)' in May of this year.

"It's time for this man to take responsibility. Responsibility for the zoo, responsibility for Bobbie Taylor's. Responsibility for the suffering of thousands and thousands and thousands of animals in Lawrence County. It's time for this SOB to step aside. He tried to have the dogs sold at a flea market. He is a man without ethics. A man who doesn't give a shit what happens to the animals of that county. Only that no money goes to them. But you can bet his pockets are lined thickly."

The county is currently in a six-month contract with Kimberly Carpenter and Changing 42 Animal Rescue to take in animals previously going to the Morgan County animal shelter.

"All the drama that happened in Lawrence County was for NOTHING! Nothing was resolved, nothing solved. Nothing improved. In fact it's worse. And now....here we go again!"

Carpenter is paid $20 per animal, the same amount Morgan County was receiving.
"are you going to allow your tax dollars to be spent shipping dogs 55 miles away to be euthanized for 12.00?"

The six-month contract was approved on March 29, with Commissioner Joey Hargrove saying the county would build its own shelter in that time from with money from the capital projects fund.

"Now he is wanting to send Lawrence County animals to Marion County where they will pay 12.00 per dog, 6.00 for smalls and just euthanize them."

These local animal rescuers and advocates are begging locals to call and publicize the plan to ship the local Lawrence County animals to Marian Count only to be euthanized.

"this is UNACCEPTABLE and we, as rescuers, are sick and tired of cleaning up after this sickening man. They need to man up and build a damn shelter and stop this contract crap. And this county needs to be audited."

"Elections are coming up next year. If the commissioners want to play, let's make them pay. Vote them OUT!?"

Houston SPCA must return Harvey dogs to Beaumont by law

The Houston SPCA signed an agreement to return all dogs to Jefferson County. Bett Sundermeyer and No Kill Houston have provided the following information reprinted here in Pit Bulls and Other Animals.

When the Houston SPCA, a kill shelter, took animals from the Ford Center in Beaumont after Hurricane Harvey, and forced rescuers to leave, A LOT of people were understandably upset and worried about the animals.

We are all particularly worried about Pit Bull type dogs that the HSPCA took because they have said that they do NOT adopt out these dogs --- meaning they kill those dogs.

Below is the agreement that Jefferson County has with the Houston SPCA concerning the animals that they removed from Jefferson County.

This agreement says that the Houston SPCA will:

1) Place Jefferson County pets into foster homes for at least 30 days in an effort to give owners a chance to locate and reclaim their pets; and

2) Jefferson County pets will be returned to their owners at no charge; and

3) Jefferson County pets not claimed by their owners will either be placed into adoptive homes or returned to Jefferson County.

Note that the Houston SPCA has NO LEGAL RIGHT TO KILL any of the animals that they removed from Jefferson County, for any reason. This includes Pit Bull type dogs that the Houston SPCA claims are all “dangerous.”

These dogs must be RETURNED to Jefferson County.

This agreement was signed on September 2, 2017. On October 2, 2017, the Houston SPCA must abide by this agreement. No name pittie with die at Houston SPCA Facebook page has posted some of the dogs impounded by Houston SPCA. We will be reporting updates and missing pets. The Houston SPCA must be held accountable for every animal they impounded at the Ford Center in Beaumont on September 2.

No Kill Houston is a longtime animal advocacy group working hard to protect Houston's companion pets. The section regarding the Houston SPCA has documented the routine killing of countless innocent animals at the hands of the Houston SPCA.

Please sign and share this petition to fire Patti Mercer and investigate the Houston SPCA.

Houston SPCA strong arms volunteers.....and about those missing pit bulls

Only one of the many pit bulls and other animals
saved by Spring and other volunteers at
Beaumont's Ford Center
Spring Fults operates Country Love Bullies in Conroe, Texas. She has been rescuing pit bulls for over 9 years. Their facility was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, but after their rescue made it through the storm, she felt the need to help others in distress from the most horrible hurricane the people and animals in these parts had ever experienced.

She set out for Beaumont with supplies and her own stock including 30 crates, the very crates that had provided shelter for the Country Love Bullies when she brought all of the animals inside her home to keep them safe.

For a week, Spring and other first responders worked around the clock barely eating and sleeping in the makeshift set up in a hotel parking lot. They rescued pit bulls and cats, horses and other livestock. Everyone worked together to save as many lives as they could. Spring left 1/2 her kennels set up at the Ford Center and would trade out empty kennels for the full crates of saved companion pets they'd bring in on each run....
.....and there were a lot of runs.

This all came to a screeching halt Saturday, September 2 when the Houston SPCA took over the operation and shut Spring and other hard-working devoted saviors out of the building. When Spring asked about the animals they'd saved and if she could have her crates back, she was told to 'get out' and accused of 'causing a scene.' Bitter Houston SPCA employees told her, 'she was not helping.'

You can say a lot about someone, but when they've gone without sleep and nourishment, not to mention a hot shower, in order to save animals' lives, this was cruel punishment. If this how the Houston SPCA treats human beings who are trying to help, the rumors of killing pit bulls and other animals are not hard to believe.

No name pittie will die at Houston SPCA is a Facebook page created in 2012 to raise awareness of the Houston SPCA's mass killings of all pit bulls. The Houston Mayor's task force discovered some horrifying figures in 2005 before the Houston SPCA began secreting their impound and euthanasia
numbers:

The rumors began to circulate among the volunteers who began posting items on Facebook and social media. Pit bulls disappeared. The same dogs who these volunteers had risked their lives to save were now gone and replaced with pandemonium amidst banning anyone who dared to ask questions.

Live on Country Love Bullies Facebook page are videos documenting the goings on at the Ford Center under the armed direction of Houston SPCA a.k.a. Houston Animal Cops, the name of their long running Animal Planet TV show.

Spring documented her return to the Ford Center in this video:

https://www.facebook.com/countrylovebullies/videos/1371441889620464/

and followed up with another video to try and make sense of the takeover by the Houston SPCA at the Ford Center:

https://www.facebook.com/countrylovebullies/videos/1371480122949974/

Pit Bulls and Other Animals has reached out to Safe K9 Transports and Guardians of Rescue who were at the Ford Center during the takeover by Houston SPCA in hopes of answering questions about the missing pit bulls who disappeared Saturday, September 2. Neither group has responded with a statement.

Spring, whose group is under jurisdiction of Houston SPCA, felt the need to speak out as a pit bull lover and longtime rescuer even if "the Houston SPCA wants to try and shut down my rescue in retaliation. They need to be stopped!"

Photos below were taken by Spring and published on the Country Love Bullies Facebook page:

Houston SPCA screws the pooch at Beaumont's Ford Center

Katelyn Reid photo of Harvey rescue
Now that the dust has settled, or rather the levee leveled, boots on the ground first responders are recalling horrible experiences with Houston SPCA.

The Houston SPCA rolled into Beaumont the afternoon of Saturday, September 2nd and completely took over operations and animals being cared for by rescuers and volunteers who'd been sweltering in the hot and humid Ford Center for a week.

Katelyn Reid had organized the Ford Center operation and despite heat, flooding, fleas and other disaster and pests, the center was operating surprisingly efficiently. People from all over the United States had driven to Beaumont, many like Erika Pearce from Indianapolis who drove with her husband and a car filled with donated vet supplies and much needed medicine to help care for the incoming hundreds of dogs, cats and other animals.

These good people worked tirelessly and missed meals to save these animals before Houston SPCA took over and shut everyone out.

Shylah Salas was one of the hard-working animal lovers and has issued a gut-wrenching statement to the Houston SPCA:

To the HSPCA, I am NO LONGER a SUPPORTER of your organization. After our encounter at the Ford Center in Beaumont, I walked away feeling distraught towards your efforts which were UNPROFESSIONAL, UNORGANIZED and seemed to have LACKED SINCERITY.

Your employees, especially TRAVIS came off Ignorant & lacked administration skills. Grant it, yall did a wonderful job w/ organizing our supplies. HSPCA claimed to "take charge" yet instead of "CALLING A MEETING with THE COMMUNITY at FORD CENTER", the information was being transfered through word of mouth.

YOUR EMPLOYEES SLEPT COMFORTABLY IN your company van WHILE Sandra Kelly and I, along with 3 members, TENDED to a trailer carrying 8 DOGS (1 w/parvo) and a sick horse. NONE OF YOUR STAFF WAS AVAILABLE until 8am then held a "Staff Meeting" for an HOUR & A HALF while DOGS SAT WITH URINATION & DEFFICATION in their crates.

The ICU PATIENTS did not have REFILLED BAGS, a chicken was DEAD. Travis ordered an elderly man to leave the premises (who was granted permission to stay by Ford shelter original coordinator) because "This is not a camp ground!" How dare you tell this man that if his 12 cockerspaniels and 1 lab were not transferred or taken elsewhere, they will be EUTHANIZED AFTER 2 WEEKS when your policy stated " 30 days". How is 2 weeks a sufficient amount of time for OWNERS WHO LOST EVERYTHING but their lives to recover their beloved pets?!?

HOW DARE you transport 20+ dogs w/out providing proper documents or communication regarding their transfer. First of all, WHY TRANSFER these DOGS?? WHERE DID THE REST OF THEM GO? Yepp...we have proof of animals missing in crates and 1 who was walked at 8pm, but never returned. Why only start inventory POST TRANSFER of DOGS? And why were pups labeled aggressive & specific animals(excluding the sick) segregated?

HOW DARE YOU ASK FOR DONATIONS WHEN YOU ALREADY SEIZED 80% that EXISTED PRIOR to YOUR ARRIVAL. Why donate money when you are planning to euthanize after 2 weeks? Those donations sustain you for MONTHS.

I FELT YOU TREATED this NATURAL DISASTER as if it were another CORPORATE JOB!!
Your lack of communication, administration, and most importantly, Honesty screwed yall over. I cannot prove you were euthanizing, but what I do know was something felt shady when HSPCA arrived. I was BOOTS ON GROUND....

Leila Barry, another hard working Ford Center first responder adds this to Shylah's statement:

I was boots on the ground as well, and was amazed that after 6 hours, 6 you couldn't tell the rescuers how many dogs were there. Yeah Travis you know how to count money really well, but not dogs. And how were the 22 dogs flown outta state when all the airports WERE CLOSED AND UNDER WATER. and why was the single room under the pavilion STAFF ONLY . You have a lot of explaining to do HSPCA. I WANT TO KNOW.

When Shylah received a Houston SPCA plea for donation money, it was just too much and she posted her statement. These people see the orchestrated money raising campaigns all over social media by the Houston SPCA taking credit for their work and the lives these volunteers rescued from flooded homes and brought to the Ford Center. It is infuriating and it is nauseating. They are getting a dose of the way Houston SPCA does business...and to them, it's business. Pit bulls aren't good business and that's probably why you never saw a pit bull on their hit Animal Planet series Animal Cops: Houston.

Since 2012, we have been questioning Houston SPCA's high kill practices with our Facebook page No name pittie will die at Houston SPCA.

According to No Kill Houston "The Houston SPCA's Save Rate was only 35% the last time that they were honest and released their records to the public.  We believe that their Save Rate is drastically lower than this now."

World Animal Awareness Society also tried to get some answers from Houston SPCA in their
No Hope for Paws as Houston SPCA accused of killing dogs after Hurricane Harvey: Operation Houston video:

We will continue to write about and research the Houston SPCA and the goings on at Beaumont's Ford Center. Please contact Pit bulls and other animals with photos, videos and animal stories related to Harvey and the Beaumont Ford Center.

Update: Fact Check - Red Cross Harvey donation toss

Snopes.com, the urban legend fact checker, is jumping the train to capture some of the mass audience of animal lovers around the world incensed over the Red Cross tossing donations in Houston.

Wendy Underwood shared a video which has now been claimed by Cody Sloan who shot the viral video and updated September 12, 2017 with this video.
According to Snopes, "On 10 September 2017, a now-viral video posted to Facebook contains claims
the Red Cross in Houston, Texas was instructed to throw out a significant quantity of food and supplies donated by the public in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey."

Snopes goes on to quote from the video and Pit Bulls and Other Animals blog, "In the video, the camera pans over a pile of food, bags, and crates in what appears to be a garage, while the woman narrating it reiterates that it consisted of donations to the organization that had been discarded. No additional information is given."

Snopes managed to get in touch with the Red Cross whose spokesperson Elizabeth Penniman had this to say, "We work with a large number of partners, who provide bulk donations of goods to the Red Cross. There has been no directive given at any of our operations to discard or dispose of any new

The 'fact check' goes on to say Snopes has made repeated efforts to contact Underwood who resides in Waco and verify the video's origin. Pit Bulls and Other Animals has updated blogs to identify the video as having been shot by Cody Sloan from Houston who is working hard to see that the leftover donations in question are being distributed to needy pets and local Houston animal rescue organizations.

It's important to note the reason this video went viral. The Red Cross is no stranger to controversy. In fact, NPR did a series on the mysterious goings on involving $500 million dollars donated to the American Red Cross in Haiti relief: In Search Of The Red Cross' $500 Million In Haiti Relief In response to the furor over the tossed Hurricane Harvey donations, the Red Cross has issued a lengthy statement which fails to address the trashed donations filmed in Sloan's now viral video:

The Red Cross certainly can't be accused of not waxing eloquent, but their polemic in this case only succeeds in fanning the fire. What the Red Cross doesn't seem to understand in their admonishment of the 'dangers of rumors and misinformation' is the audience to whom they're speaking. Many of those who read and passed along this information are hard-working Americans and others who wanted to help their fellows and companion animals displaced by a horrible event. From the comments left on social media, many of these good people had already caught wind of misguided funding in the hands of the Red Cross such as the ProPublica exposé: How one of the country’s most venerated charities has failed disaster victims, broken promises and made dubious claims of success.

Bottom line, people want clear answers and the response to this incident by the Red Cross is anything but.

Please refer any animal stories and Hurricane Harvey pet updates to Pit Bulls and Other Animals.

Reunion Rescue's War on Fleas

Reunion Rescue has always fed our dogs and other animals a raw diet. Feeding cats and dogs a raw diet has proved to be a formidable flea-fighting foe. Our website's Health Page is chock full of information about raw feeding.

Last summer, Texas pet owners faced an awful flea problem and Reunion Rescue was hit hard. Each year, we treat our property here at Reunion Rescue No-Kill Refuge with beneficial nematodes.

What are beneficial nematodes for fleas? How do they work?

From Fleabites.net...a nematode called Steinerma carpocapsae is a parasite of fleas. It is known to effectively kill adult fleas as well as their larvae and pupa in grass and soil. Pet owners with large backyards can spray treat their gardens with a beneficial nematode solution to keep their pets safe from flea menace in the summer months. Beneficial nematodes are environmentally safe, so they do not damage crops and gardens. Studies have shown that these ‘non-toxic pest control operators’ can eliminate more than 90% of flea larvae within 24 hours of the first application.

We didn't treat our property last summer and we learned a hard lesson. With heavy rains this winter and spring, we knew this coming season was going to be even worse, so we treated the property not only once, but twice with beneficial nematodes.

For years, the upper level of our residence a.k.a. refuge was carpeted. For my birthday this year, I bit
the bullet and ripped out the carpet and installed vinyl sheet flooring. This can be treated with an I.G. regulator which kills fleas, both adult and larvae, for 7 months. The I.G. regulator is mixed with a gallon of water and can be sprayed on carpet, flooring, baseboards, furniture, kennels and bedding.

1. If your dog seems to be more plagued by fleas than others, then her blood must be particularly attractive.

2. If your dog is more reactive and itchy than others, then the additional toxins injected by the fleas must be stressing her system more than others.

3. Also, we know that itching and scratching is a bodily response trying to either stimulate the blood to clear toxins from under the skin or an attempt to break through the skin to release them to the outside.

4. Therefore, if we can reduce the toxin levels from your dogs blood and at the same time make the blood less palatable, we can probably make a difference.

5. In herbal medicine the powerful blood cleansers are also herbs which are strong and unpleasant in taste. So, if we provide a course of such herbs, we are able to reduce the toxic load in the blood and at the same time make the blood less attractive to parasites.

Cindy's homemade flea powder:

Edible diatomaceous earth added to the food daily will cause the body to repel fleas.

For the flea powder, I mix diatomaceous earth, yarrow powder, crushed eucalyptus leaves, and neem powder..all non toxic and rather nice smelling.

We also use Cedarcide shampoo and spray to deter fleas. Cedarcide products are safe for pets and children. We do not use the yard treatment where we've applied nematodes.

You might think this is a bit overkill, but remember, this is war, war on fleas.

Please share your flea tips and healthy pet information on our Facebook page, Home Remedies to Heal Animals. We are always looking for healthy, holistic alternatives to enrich the lives of the wonderful animals we share our lives with.

Wolfie was born on February 2, 2013! He was born with deformed front legs that inhibit him from walking normally. When brought to the vet it was recommend that he be euthanized because they believed he wouldn't be able to live a "normal life".
Description
http://www.youcaring.com/pet-expenses/the-wolfie-project/54958
Wolfie was born on February 2, 2013 with deformed front legs. His condition inhib...its him from walking normally, however it does not currently deter him from his puppy ways. This page is intended to share his story and mark his progress, as he will most likely need surgeries to improve his mobility.

It's a miracle Loni is even alive. He was 7 weeks old in a scary shelter and tested positive for panleukemia. He was about to be euthanized but by some miracle there was a delay in doing so. I happened to show up at the shelter and although going to see a cat a few cages down I saw him and couldn't resist. He was said to be a hissy kitten but I picked him right up and he melted in my arms. Knowing... he tested positive for panleuk I still made the decision to take a chance to save his life. After a week of treatment Loni tested negative. A week later from that happy day, suddenly Loni was stuggling to walk with his hind legs which soon left them paralyzed with very little feeling in them. Loni had weekly vet visits testing and retesting with no solid explanation. For three weeks he just pulled himself around. Week four after hope was almost lost.. he started to crawl. Falling a lot but he was moving the legs and crawling on his knees. It slowly progressed. Week five Loni was still crawling around. Week six he would try to use his feet but he couldn't place his paws down... he would attempt to walk on the backs of his paws. Week seven was the same although this determined little soul would force himself to stand at his bowl. He still couldn't walk or end take steps without falling. Not to mention for all these weeks he's unable to use the litterbox. Week eight was a happy one.. Loni started to take steps...

Loni has progressed a lot in 2 months. From not being able to use his back legs at all to being fairly mobile and able to stand and slowly take a few steps. Loni has seen four different vets with many visit and many tests and treatments. He is still being treated and although I don't want to get my heart set on it he is expected to fully recover. It may be months down the road but all that matters is that he recovers. measure: A 6.5 B 3.5 C 2+ D 4 E 3
