5 of the Austin cruelty case dogs were impounded by Austin Animal Services yesterday, but one is still on the loose. Miss P, as the goodhearted neighbors who are responsible for saving these dogs are calling her is a bit skittish and evaded capture.
According to KXAN, five of the dogs are being held for a cruelty investigation at Austin Animal Services, but foster families are being sought.
Reunion Rescue will step up for these dogs, but must have solid foster commitments to help.
While Reunion Rescue refuge is overfull right now, we have a great foster to adopt program and are the only raw feeding holistic no kill pit bull refuge in the world...right here in Austin, Texas. We want to help these dogs.
Reunion Rescue is walking in Best Friends Strut Your Mutt Austin. If at all possible, we'd like to get these dogs into foster homes and vetted so they could participate in this event. What better opportunity to meet potential new families and raise awareness to animal abuse and homeless pets than these lovely dogs walking for other homeless pets?
Please take a look at Reunion Rescue's website Health Page and Training Page and think about becoming a foster home for one of these lovely dogs.
Contact doggirl1@earthlink.net with any questions about our program. Details about these 6 dogs and progress reported on our Facebook pages and in this blog.

Another happy day, two in a row!
![]() |
| Mabel |
Mabel came from down in Lancaster with a super dooper case of mange. It wasn't as bad as Mr. Sweets' or Benny's demodex, but bad enough for people to ask a bunch of dumb questions. I just refer those types to Google and tell them to type in 'demodex' and 'holistic' so they can at least learn a little something about health and curing the 'whole body'.
Life's too short and I'm too old to train any more people. When they start asking questions about pit bulls and offering opinions, I just have to refer them to PBRC or one of the other many new pit bull sites. I'd rather just go walk the dog and never seem to have enough time for that these days.
I spent all morning getting ready for my book signing at BookWoman. I reached out to a bunch of local shelters and animal groups to invite their representatives to the event in hopes that we can work together. The idea would be to set up workshops and readings at their facilities to try and up the adoptions with surefire objectives that have been working with Reunion adoptions for the past 12 plus years, in essence, Pit Bull Nation.
The reception was surprisingly warm and I do believe some of the people invited might actually attend. This is hopeful as I am committed to spreading the word and helping as many animals as possible. I know I can't do it alone, but hope that some of the ideas in the book will help others save lives. It's sure time for it.
Petey Pie's fosters called and had a few little questions. It's so nice to consider that people care so very much. This little boy was just about to give up back in Bakersfield and now he's sitting on top of the world! He gets to go to the park every day, eat raw, go to Starbuck's and the bank...everything in his little life is a total joy for him. It's my desire to help others find that happiness. It's such an easy thing to do.
In order to do that, though, I must remember what Benny has to say. I must let go of the negative and not try to hold on to things. Let the good and the bad just keep on flowing, like the man said. When I stop at the end of the day and let it rest a minute, my little bitty nugget of peace and understanding is just enough to spread like a cocoon around me from my toes to my elbows to my ears and the tip top of my noggin.
When I'm quiet for a moment and can survey the day, all the faces come to me. I'm looking at sweet Mabel and thinking of Benny. Girl's a snoring on the couch and Tex is licking himself where I cannot seem to lick the hotspots even with all the raw the homeo. I'm thinking of Mr. Sweets and Guido, poor old scared Guido. I'm thinking of Hazel and her trip being delayed to the bay. It's ok. She'll get here when she's supposed. All things happen as they should.
Tonight, everything is in its place and I am at peace with the universe.

Lil' Petey, Arky and Sadie
![]() |
| Little Petey |
Talking about sickness, there is little Petey on his way to Marin right this minute. He is a little three month blue nose from Kern County. He is not doing very well right now. They say he has an upper respiratory infection, but I'm thinking he's been in the shelter so long and just began to debilitate. I know once we get him to Bibi's, he'll begin to perk up. She is on her way to the store right now to get Rescue Remedy, chicken broth and rice which is all he can eat. He ordered this as well as let us know his name.
![]() |
| Sadie and puppies |
Sadie is the momma dog who got out of KCAC Thursday with nine puppies. She is safe and in a nice foster home dash office. Shane, who is an incredible person, offered to foster this mom along with the puppies until they're ready to be adopted. They already had two baths to try and get the stinky off. She had a spa treatment. O boy!
![]() |
| Arky |
I'm also having a problem with Darla. She is a German Shepherd, but not my dog. I get all these dogs over my computer every single day. Had a lady who wanted a GSD, so sent her to Martinez to visit Darla. She adopted and then took Darla to Peninsula Humane Society where she's been for a month being evaluated. Very crazy. I even have an adopter for Darla, but he can't even go visit.
The group which first alerted me to Darla has completely washed their hands of the matter. I realize people deal with stress and sadness in different ways, but if you're going to last in rescue work, you have to not give up on the dog. I finally had to tell them to take me off this list. I have a feeling I'll be seeing more of Darla and hopefully, less of them.

Manhattan Shelter, NYC, NY
***THEY USE TO SLEEP TOGETHER .... And, now they cry for each other. Balboa and brother Rocky have never been separated or away from each other - until now. Can you imagine no more children to play with, no more dog parks to run in, no more sleeping with your brother for comfort - the life you knew just gone one day! Little does Rocky know his brother BALBOA WILL BE KILLED MON FEB 22 AT NYCACC - MANHATTAN, NY***
They are being surrendered because the owner is no longer allowed to have both in the home. He received them both from a breeder 2 years ago.
Socialization: They are very friendly and outgoing with strangers. They lived in a home with small children and played well with them. They get very excited when they hear or see other dogs. They play exuberantly with each other and are very vocal when they play. (growl, jump and mouth each others faces.) They have not been around cats. They have not bitten anyone or any other animal.
Behavior: Rocky and Balboa are always walked together 2 or 3 times a day. They love to go to the dog run and play with each other and other dogs. They enjoy baths and being hosed down in the street. They are well trained and according to the owner, allow to have their food bowl, treats, and toys taken away from them, even by the children in the home.
For a new family to know: Rocky and Balboa are described as friendly and playful. They may appear big but are cuddlly and affectionate. The owners favorite thing about them is that they are good listeners and are protective.
Rescue only - Not doing well in the shelter environment. Seems to be acting out. Remember his world has been turned upside down!

This poor boo is a "project dog" who volunteers are working with due to his fear. However, the poor kid has been sick and he isn't getting better. He is on Doxy, so hopefully we will see an improvement, but if not, he will have a medical deadline. Deadline or not, he really should be out in order to get better. He looked miserable today with nasal discharge and labored breathing.
He also has significant hair loss and the skin scrape was negative for parasites.
