Saving Chopper ... a terrified boy at Carson Shelter

Saving Carson Shelter Dogs Facebook page is advocating to save this boy and his brother, Presley:

Honestly CHOPPER is having a very difficult time in the Shelter. His brother is handling things better but CHOPPER is completely shut down and if he isn't asleep, he is trembling with fear and he won't even look at you. The trembling speeds up if you call out his name, even in a loving whisper..This is too much for him and the brothers need your help today! Please SHARE, they are Urgent and they need help now. A FOSTER or Adopter would save them together. Thanks!

#A4284483 My name is PRESLEY and I'm an approximately 5 year old male Chihuahua. I am neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 4/12. I will be available on 4/16. You can visit me at my temporary home at C242.

My former family who owned me for had to give me up because they couldn't afford the care I need.

RED ALERT! Small town begging to save dog's life

Lakeway, Texas is a small community located near Austin. Until recently, Austin took in all the local strays and impounds, but are now charging to impound animals from these little communities.

Lakeway can't afford to pay the fee and this dog will be euthanized.

A chip in is being collected to try and save her life.

CHIP IN FOR CLINGER:
http://www.gofundme.com/7szgfo

She is sweet and gentle and was un-responsive to an intact male. According to our good friend and advocate for the animals, Officer Andrea Grieg, she looks like she's been 'bred a lot and beaten. She walks well on lead and doesn't pull. She knows sit and is kennel trained. She doesn't jump on people.'

Here is a very sweet dog who will die if we don't pull together as a community and try to save her.

If enough is collected, we're hoping to get her into boarding where she can begin learning for the first time in her terrible life how to be a dog.

Officer Grieg has named her Clinger, because she just wants to be with a person.

"Female Pit bull approximately 2-5 years was beaten and thrown in a retention pond on 620 here in
Austin.

She knows how to sit, walks fantastic on a leash, does not jump on people. She loves to cuddle and just wants to stay next to you at all times.

I named her Clinger because  she does not move when you give her kisses. Don’t know how she is about children or cats.

Does like male dogs because she was bred a lot and got to meet a lab in the kennel. She has not gone potty at all in her kennel and has even held it for over twelve hours. She is a great dog  and needs a home where someone will understand the abuse she suffered.

I am working with her every day to help her trust people.

Please contact me if you can take this little girl. AndreaGreig@lakeway-tx.gov

Incredibly sad! Lakeway Police contacted me today on our Austin Pets Alive Pass Hotline. They have no holding place for dogs and can't afford the fees the shelter charges to take her there.

She will be euthanized on Friday if no help and the officer does not want to do that. She has someone sponsoring her spay and vaccines for any reputable rescue or individual that can take her. Here is the info ...on her from Officer Greig:

My name is Amber

I came from the hard streets of Houston, Texas. Reunion Rescue helped save my life along with Stella who was tortured and abandoned with me.

Stella and I were sent to Spindletop Refuge in 2012 when everyone thought this place was truly a sanctuary. Leah Purcell, the proprietor, was even called upon to testify in courts across the United States. She and Spindletop had everyone fooled.

Stella was killed at Spindletop and Reunion Rescue came for me. I have been here at Reunion Rescue No Kill Refuge ever since.

I am a really good girl. I love to eat and go on walks. I'm a little chunky monkey. It took me a little while to detoxify and decompress after being rescued from Spindletop, but I'm fine now.

Unfortunately, most people look at me like a pit bull even though on a closer inspection with a trained eye, my bulldog and boxer characteristics blossom forth. Because of the haters and the media most people do not want to adopt a dog like me.

That's ok, though. I am very much loved and always have a place of refuge at Reunion. Sometimes at the end of the day, we sit on the back porch and watch the sun go down. It is calm and happy here. Reunion has promised that I will never go to another place that kills animals or mistreats them.

It costs Reunion about $250 a month to care for each dog, so I'm reaching out to you for help. Please consider a small donation to help buy me a raw meal and some chew toys each day. I don't ask for much, but I do love a cookie, too.

You can help out by visiting Reunion Rescue's website and clicking the donation button. Please visit me on Facebook and like my page:

Amazing rescue: pulls needles out of three dogs being killed

In Palmdale, California: This one person stepped up to the plate to save three dogs being killed and needs our help.

She received "a call today from a girl who was crying. Her brother had decided to put his (6) 3 yr old Pit Bulls to sleep. He cannot keep them anymore, and has been evicted due to them. He did not want to take them to the shelter, and have them die there alone. Our local shelter is the worse shelter in LA County, and is 70% full of Pit Bulls at any given time."

She "literally got her to pull the needles out of the dogs as they were already at the vet, being prepped. Please help me save them, we only have a few days."

This good person is begging for help.

Conan - male - Fawn - He is a very lovable boy.  He likes to take long walks, run, jump and play.  He loves to chew on rawhide bones during his "leisure time". He enjoys treats and is willing to take them when given the following commands: sit, shake, high five, come and "easy" when accepting food. Just like any dog he loves getting hugs and gives lots of kisses. He would fit best with people who don't have any other pets.
Conan

Sheera

Sheera - female - Fawn - She loves her "blankies"(blankets, sheets, towels to lay on).  She likes to take naps.  She loves playing fetch and jumps really high.  She likes to take walks and loves getting belly rubs.  She gives kisses and loves getting hugs. She is allergic to certain dry foods (no Purina brand) but loves snacks like: tortilla chips, popcorn, saltines, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, carrots, peas, applesauce and white rice.  Not to mention she loves boiled chicken! She is a very sweet girl.

Vespa

Taking long walks and dancing to Maroon Five are her favorite things to do.  She is a very calm and loving girl.  She loves getting hugs and likes her ears rubbed. She enjoys chew toys and loves to drink water. At night she likes to sleep with a blanket or sheet.

Honey

Honey - female - Fawn/White - She got her name because her personality and color.  She is a sweet girl and she likes to lick on honey. She enjoys taking long walks and playing fetch outside.  Chewing on rawhide bones or a chew toy is the best way she likes to spend her time.

Gigi

Gigi - female - Gray/White chest  - She is a very lovable girl.  She likes to play catch and fetch. She loves drinking water and tends to sleep at your feet or next to you.  She likes sleeping with a blanket at night (if she is by herself) and enjoys getting her belly rubbed.  You know she likes you when she shows you her belly. Playing with chew toys and enjoying her "nap time" are the best ways she spends her day.

Zena
Xena - female - Gray - She loves giving kisses even "french kisses".  =) She is very lovable and enjoys taking walks outside.  She loves chewing on rawhide bones or chew toys. She likes getting her belly rubbed and loves to scratch her back on the carpet or grass.  She also clips her own nails.  She does not like the nail clipper sound.  At night, she enjoys sleeping on a blanket, sheet or towel.  She will request it by barking a certain way.

These are family pets and due to breed specific legislation, they were being euthanized. How in the world did California annex to Denver all of a sudden?

Please help by sharing their story and offering homes, rescue, a few bucks or whatever it takes to save these beautiful dogs:

William says there's hope for our sad old wold

William was starved nearly to death, dragged behind a truck and thrown on a bar-b-que grill while lit before being dumped in one of the country's most disgusting facilities in Stockton, California.

Today, he's enjoying his life at Reunion Rescue No Kill Refuge. He eats raw fed diet with organic free range chicken and humanely raised beef. He is treated with herbs to calm his anxiety and goes on lovely nature walks along the lake.

When he looks out at the swans floating on the calm Colorado River, William looks like he might be regaining some faith that not all humans are horrible.

Hope is wonderful thing. Some behaviorists have said dogs don't have the ability to 'hope'....to experience emotion, but looking at William in this picture certainly argues that thought.

No matter what might be going on in the stresses of rescue work and the sad stories one encounters on a daily basis, a leash and a walk down by the lake pretty much cure all that ails one...man or dog.

Put a pit bull in your library

Reunion Rescue and Pit Bull Nation have a great idea. Let's put a pit bull in every library. This is one way to do away with BSL and all of the media horror stories promoted by the press.

One never sees or hears about the happy stories about millions of pit bull family pets and that's exactly why Pit Bull Nation was written. For the true story behind the book Pit Bull Nation about pulling death row dogs being killed at a city shelter along with how Reunion Rescue runs the world's only holistic raw-feeding no kill pit bull refuge, this book is a must read.

We are asking every pit bull lover to call their local library and request a copy of Pit Bull Nation be put on the shelves.

It's easy and besides educating the public, proceeds from all sales go toward helping dogs....talk about win/win, right?

Please visit Pit Bull Nation on Facebook and attend our Put a pit bull in your library event on Facebook. We love your photos and comments, too!

Pit Bull Nation

New Pit Bull Nation review...oh, yeah, by me...is that called conflict of interests? I don't think so if your heart's in the right place.

Pit Bull Nation is a new book by Cindy Marabito. Although pit bull is in the title, the book is not just about pit bulls, but a tell-all account of what goes on behind the scenes in some shelters.
Marabito begins the book with a Marley and Me story about a chow chow she found on the east side of Dallas, Texas. That’s where the similarity to a fuzzy warm story ends and the honest searing trip down a dark path begins.
Marabito takes the reader on an unforgettable ride behind the walls of so-called no-kill shelters run by modern day Hitler types and the end of the line for the nation’s unwanted dogs and cats. She shares her experiences with unscrupulous veterinary hospitals bordering on malpractice.
Pit Bull Nation does not always prevail on the dark side. For each pull at the heartstrings, there is a tale of redemption and miracle. It’s no accident that Marabito rescues pit bulls and also not a coincidence her rescue is called Reunion Rescue.
This book shares her knowledge of diet and nutrition, homeopathy and holistic cures for almost every single disease or behavior a pet owner and most rescues encounter. Marabito shares her path of healing and how she learned it's secrets from pit bulls and a Siamese cat.
This book is a must read for any animal lover, but especially for the rescue worker who would like to find out how to feed dogs and cats for twenty five cents a day and treat any malady and most aggression with items from their local Whole Foods Market.
Pit Bull Nation is an honest look at the overwhelming epidemic facing the United States today. With every shelter filled with pit bulls and more waiting to enter them, Marabito shares a solution to the problem in her own voice, her own way.
Pit Bull Nation is available in e-book format or in trade paperback through the website http://www.pitbullnationonline.com

Pit bull prison program Carmen will die Christmas day

Reunion Rescue is full and over-extended and can't take another dog on or we'd save Carmen in a second.

One of our good friends asked Reunion to take Carmen who would thrive here as we use herbal support to address issues such as Shelter Depression Disorder.

Please read Carmen's plea as quoted below:

Sadly, it has been brought to my attention that Carmen is suffering from SDD, Shelter Depression Disorder.   This sweet female has been kenneled too long and is currently back at the Jefferson Parish East Bank shelter in the stray/hold area.  She is good with some dogs, and not others – she appears to like dogs that are close to her size more than smaller dogs."

"This beautiful female has until December 25th, Christmas,  to find a home.  At that time, the shelter feels it is time to let her go as it is cruel to continue to confine her, as she is miserable, especially after experiencing all the attention at the Rayburn Facility."

"PLEASE contact molsen@jeffparish.net for more information, 504-736-6111.   The Director of the Shelter, Robin Beaulieu, reports that William Barse has offered free obedience training for a year to anyone that is local and interested in adopting Carmen."

"***Carmen is a graduate of the Dog Gone Express Training Program where she has had six weeks of training and even lived with her trainer at Rayburn Prison Facility."

"She has learned about 9 obedience commands and the American Sign Language for these commands. She is housetrained, good with other dogs, spayed, up to date on all vaccines, microcipped and crate trained. This girl has a wonderful disposition, is a super star and her prison handler loved her so much, that he found it difficult to let her go."

"Please contact Martha email: molsen@jeffparish.net or William Barse that heads up the prison program at email: lwilliambarse@aol.com for more information."

Please share far and wide to help Carmen who has worked so hard to avoid a death sentence.

Reunion Rescue will offer all of our tried and true resources to anyone who saves Carmen.

The Greatest: Rowdy Cowgirl, death of a pit bull icon

Yesterday, Rowdy Cowgirl passed from this earth in my arms. Rowdy, who we called Girl, was the girl in the Reunion Rescue logo and the shining light that kept Reunion Rescue going for the past 15 years. She was the greatest. Just like the song.

Rebel, Mookie and Girl in better days
I met Girl at San Francisco Animal Control when Reunion Rescue was getting its start. She would sit in her kennel in Room 106, the pit bull room, where people would open the main door and whisper, 'Oh, those are pit bulls,' before quietly closing the door and tiptoe away almost as if they feared these locked up dogs would attack, maul and kill them through the heavy chain link and prison cell-like enclosures.

Girl was an old soul from the start. She seemed to know all the secrets of the world and would go back to her cell at SFACC quietly, always with dignity. I would promise her I'd find her a home. I promised her I wouldn't let her die like the others routinely killed at that facility. When the day came for a new pit bull to come over from strays and Girl to be destroyed, I couldn't do it. I called my husband who brought Mookie and Rebel down to the sideyard to meet Girl.

It was a hit. Mookie, always the ladies man was Girl's best friend from the get go. Both dogs were athletes and all about the Frisbee and the ball.

Rebel was his own dog, happy in a crowd or just by himself as chow chows are.

Girl was still young and had a lot of puppy in her. She immediately chewed up a Johnny Cash album and then ate a Moby tape before we implemented the Reunion Rescue Step 1-2-3 Pit Bull Starter Kit.

It wasn't long before Girl was crate trained and able to share free roaming the house with Mookie and Rebel.

Over the years living in our little cottage on Lakeview Avenue in San Francisco, we made the rounds. We ran and hiked Merced Lake,

Pacifica on the beach, Montara and every beach and mountain hiking trail between San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

We made the trip to Bolinas, Dogtown and Stinson Beach as often as we could. We hiked Mount Davidson, Bernal Heights, Chrissy Field and Presidio, Fort Funston, Baker Beach and China Beach.

Girl became a regular and lovely sight in the city where she almost was killed. She become an icon for pit bulls and the logo for Reunion Rescue from a tatoo on my arm.

Girl became the captain of the Reunion Rescue Frisbee Team and was featured in the movie 'Off the Chain."

More than all of that, she was my best friend. For me, she was that dog.

My heart is broken, but the last gift I could give to Girl was to let her go. Her job here was done. She saved a lot of pit bulls over the years and it is now her time to rest.

Girl truly was the greatest...and taught me every day how to settle for just being good.

Goodbye, my beautiful Girl...

This is the song I'm playing today for Girl, The Greatest, by Cat Power...it's everything about Girl who really was the Greatest ever and who taught somebody like me to just try and be good, to just be the best that I can be.

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or waterfall could STALL me
And then came the rush of the flood
The stars at night turned DEEP to dust

Melt me down
into big black armour
Leave no trace
Of grace
Just in your honor
Lower me down
TO CULPRIT SOUTH
Make 'EM WASH A SPACE IN TOWN
FOR THE LEAD
AND THE DREGS OF MY BED
I'VE BEEN SLEEPING
Lower me down
PIN ME IN
Secure the grounds
For the later parade

Once I wanted to be the greatest
TWO FISTS OF SOLID ROCK
WITH BRAINS THAT COULD EXPLAIN
Any feeling
Lower me down
PIN ME IN
Secure the grounds
FOR THE LEAD
AND THE DREGS OF MY BED
I'VE BEEN SLEEPING
For the later parade

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or water fall could STALL me
And then came the rush of the flood
The stars at night turned DEEP to dust

Spuds eyes and Texas transport

Reunion Rescue is asking for help to bring Spuds to Texas. Spuds was adopted out at Marin Humane Society and wound up back there as a stray and blind! Marin Humane was going to euthanize him, so Reunion Rescue pulled him and placed Spuds in boarding.

Spuds has been in boarding well over a year. He has developed some tendon/joint issues on top of the blindness, so we have decided to try and bring him here to Texas at the Reunion Rescue No-Kill Refuge where he can be treated holistically, get well and find a wonderful forever familly to love him.

We need help to move Spuds to Texas as transport and care are expensive. A chip in has been created to try and underwrite the costs to get Spuds to his destination.

Our homeopathic vet can address Spuds' joint problems and has also been known to reverse blindness.

Chip in for Spuds Transport and Care:

http://reunionrescue.chipin.com/spuds-eyes-and-texas-transport

Please help by considering a small donation to help us help Spuds.

Please share Spuds story and visit Spuds and all the other wonderful Reunion adoptables on Reunion Rescue's website.

All under one rooftop....Reunion No Kill finally a reality!

Amber getting down on Kong
It's been a long, long time since I was able to wake up in the morning with a song in my heart. I am very grateful for all the Reunion Rescue dogs living great lives and the ones who haven't found their homes yet, living a good life at Reunion Rescue No Kill Refuge, the only raw feeding holistic no kill pit bull shelter in the world.

It ain't perfect yet, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. For years, we've boarded our Texas and California dogs while thinking we just were not set up to be a shelter. The Texas dogs were boarded at Spindletop which was raided last summer. We made four trips to Conroe to get some of our dogs back, but Stella was killed with 37 others in the Morgan Building. Many other dogs are still missing and presumed dead.

Just as the dust was settling over the Spindletop tragedy, we began making plans to bring our three remaining California dogs which were being boarded in Lodi. What's three more, right? Once you've set your mind to run a sanctuary, it's really not that hard.
BeBe at the lake

We are set up here on the river outside Austin, Texas to comfortably house these animals. Each of these dogs came from nasty beginnings.

Amber and Stella were butchered and noosed in a hot Houston vacant lot. Stella still had blood running down her head when she was found and we raised money to board them at Spindletop.
BeBe doing some Christmas shopping

BeBe burying her Kong
BeBe, formerly known as Batgirl, was beaten severely with a baseball bat and scheduled to die in Austin.

Merry Christmas from Nolan
Nolan was starved nearly to death outside Dallas and on his way to Spindletop when news of the raid and seizure hit. Luckily, his transporter turned the car around, but not before Leah Purcell pocketed over a thousand dollars which had been raised for his care. Heartworm positive and down to 70 pounds, this beautiful Great Dane/American Bulldog mix is thriving at Reunion on a raw diet and lots of sunshine and exercise. He's even well enough to finally be neutered for Christmas.

Peanut and Scott
Peanut was named 'Feo' and pulled illegally by Purcell from city of Alvin shelter last December. It's anyone's guess how much money she made off this dog. Since The American Pit Bull Examiner covered his story in the first place, Reunion felt a kinship with Peanut, so here he is. Peanut had a lot of fearful problems he's working on and goes to work with Scott these days. Along with his herbal remedy and raw diet, Peanut's 'job' has turned out to be the very best medicine.
Peanut and Scott..just a job

Angel overcame his abuse from Spindletop so quickly, he was able to join Murmur and Barbara in Minnesota where he's now called Hub and enjoying a Dickinson life in a small quaint town.
Our sweet brave William

William was one of the three left boarding in California. There was a lot of rumor and innuendo about William, but he is proving them all wrong. He came from the hellhole Stockton shelter after being burned, starved and drug behind a truck.

He was transported all the way to Texas with Guido and Kingston, a.k.a. King James/Spuds, and is thriving in a fab foster home. He is living the high life in a doggy day care Disneyland, eating a raw diet and happy for the first time in his whole life.

Guido Sarducci on the trail
Guido, from Wasco, and Kingston from Marin Humane, who is blind, arrived quite obese. They've been under-exercised and over-crated. Although Reunion is all about the crate as it provides a safe and confidence inspiring environment, mimicking the wild instinct, the crate is certainly not intended to be utilized 24/7. Kingston's muzzle was scarred and covered in dried bloodied marks which look as if he'd been stressed from over-crating.

Guido and Kingston were a very hard sell on the raw. Who knows what these two have been eating? We've tried just about everything from raw ground chicken blend to ground beef blend, chicken livers, yes...even kibble...but nada. I tried boiled chicken spiked with cottage cheese and even some cheddar flavored 'Easy Cheese' to no avail.

Kingston hoofing it the natural way
This morning we had a major breakthrough. Green tripe is the daily blue plate special for these two persnickety customers. First, I filled a couple of empty marrow bones with tripe and when that was snarfed down, filled a couple of big Kongs. It was a winner! Finally, getting some raw meat into these two boys. From experience, I know it's all gonna be easy pickings from here on in. Kingston's face is healing with new pink skin growth. Both these boys have relaxed and begun to settle in very nicely.

I've not had the time to sit down and write an update on these guys. Each day, I try to get each dog a nice nature hike. It's amazing to see these precious dogs doing what dogs are supposed to do. They are enjoying good healthy diets filled with ingredients their bodies were created to eat. They are exercising and learning to love the sounds of wild birds and lizards scurrying through the brush, the smells of browning leaves and sound of flowing fresh water creeks. They feel the freedom of warm sunshine on their happy faces and are slowly learning that tomorrow is another day and holds something new and fresh, an adventure. We are learning this together, that this sad old world can really be a happy place if we just put one foot in front of the other and believe.

Senior pit bulls walk for homeless dogs in San Francisco

Buster
This September, senior dogs from all over the bay area will be strutting to raise awareness for homeless pets. Reunion Rescue has been saving San Francisco bay area pit bulls from death row for over 15 years.

Not all of the wonderful dogs we've saved are still with us, but we will be remembering them in a special Hope Memorial walk. Hope passed away several months ago and her mom, Pam, has created a memorial walk for her. Anyone who's loved and lost a pet can join us in this walk. We will be writing the names of those who've passed on our commemorative tee shirts.

Maisie
September 21 at Treasure Island will certainly be a splendid day. When all the media seems to only

want to cover bad pit bull stories, Reunion Rescue's senior and other canine good citizens will be showing the world what wonderful dogs pit bulls are.

Along the way, Reunion Rescue created Animals First Rescue for the dogs like Teddy, a blind and deaf cocker spaniel who was going to be killed at San Francisco Animal Control and Alibaba, a registered Siamese cat whose owner passed away from HIV complications and the program whose mission to take care of HIV related issues, left him to die at SFACC.

Sasha, Percy and Russell
We'll be joined by Buddy, Griffie, Lola, Lexi, Allie and many others. We are waiting to hear from Kirbee, a beautiful senior Golden Retriever who was saved in the nick of time from being put to sleep. Hopefully, one of our oldest and dearest, Mia will join us with her mom, Emily. Fingers crossed.

Chino was running down Dolores and had to be darted when impounded. The minute his stray period was up, he was condemned to die. Reunion pulled Chino and he has never once left the side of his best friend, David.

Not all of the Reunion Rescue dogs are senior citizens, but won't it be a wonderful sight to watch these dogs in their golden years advocating for so many who probably won't live through their first year.

Sasha, Russell and Percy are resting up for the big walk.
Lenny

Reunion Rescue needs strutters and you don't have to have a senior pet or even a pit bull to strut with us this year. You don't even have to attend. You and your pet can create a virtual strut page and help us save that next life.

Please visit our Strut Your Mutt page and consider helping Reunion Rescue save lives. We need you to let them know....somebody loves them.

We will have some newbies walking with us like Buster Posey who was just pulled from Solano ACC. Reunion Rescue has long been a bay area refuge for unwanted pit bulls and others. Please join us this year to help homeless pets everywhere and to save that next Reunion Rescue dog.

Reunion Rescue Spindletop Refugees

On July 17, almost 300 dogs were impounded by the HSUS and Montgomery County Animal Control from Spindletop outside Willis. Many of us in rescue had thought the former 'refuge' was just that, a place of quiet rehabilitation in the lovely countryside outside Conroe, Texas.

What we discovered to be the real ugly truth was a huge hoarding operation in which dogs were stacked in crates filled with their own excrement and vomit. Photographs of filthy dishes and water bowls have been shared across Facebook and other social networks.

Reunion Rescue has been trying to raise funding to begin a real refuge, for some time. We have named it the Reunion Rescue No-Kill Refuge with its own Facebook page.

Most people do not realize how much rescue work entails and costs. We could probably have built our own refuge some time back had it not been for the boarding costs. Until the raid, Reunion Rescue was raising about $2500 a month to board at least 10 dogs. That is a lot of moolah to drum up each month and requires much writing, begging, can shaking at events and penny pinching.

We are down to four boarded dogs in California (Spuds, Diesel, William and Guido) one by one will be coming to our Austin, Texas sanctuary.

First, though, we must attend to the ones we redeemed from the raid. Stella is thought to be dead, one of the 38 who died in the Morgan Building at Spindletop and the terrible tragedy which activated the investigation.

The first dog we brought back in four trips to Conroe was Batgirl, now called BeBe. BeBe was not anything like the dog we initially boarded at Spindletop for rehabilitation. She had luckily been chipped and fixed before going to Spindletop, so she was relatively easy to have returned to Reunion's program. Sadly, her heartworm medications has been disposed of by Leah Purcell who reportedly does not believe in holistic cures.

Bebe
BeBe's treatment is the heartworm cure on our Nutrition Page along with a long term detox and herbal treatment for her issues which have been extremely escalated by solitary over-confinement in a filthy crate. Bottom line, this dog has been driven insane. We feel we can bring her back around, but this will take months if not years of work and supplements.

Amber was the little one who was rescued with Stella last summer in Houston. We created a Facebook page for them and raised enough to get them started in the boarding program at Spindletop. At least five homes were screened and would have been appropriate for either of these girls, but were turned away by Leah Purcell. Amber was very depressed when we got her back, but thanks to lots of fresh air, good raw diet, herbal and flower remedies, she is on the road to recovery, a squatty little doll.

Angel was the hardest one to retrieve. He didn't have the benefit of someone who'd actually handled him. The holding facility was reluctant to let him go in fear of the wrong person claiming him. We drove to Conroe and back twice to get Angel.

Angel responded quickly to a detox and herbal pick-me-up. If someone were to tick off the boxes in what they wanted in a dog, Angel would be that dog. He lives in the now and is very dog friendly. Since Leah turned down almost a dozen inquiries for his adoption, it was surprising to discover he was not only not a pit bull, but also very adoptable. This little Rhodesian Ridgeback mix is already in his new home with a longtime Reunion Rescue adopter. His new name is Hub.

Nolan
Nolan was nearly starved to death outside Dallas when we wrote him an article and tried to get him to safety. A kind hearted rescuer was able to talk his abusers into relinquishing him to her while the money was raised to get him into Spindletop. Nolan was boarded at her vet who discovered heartworm infestation and severe emaciation and dehydration.

When news of the raid hit, Nolan was being transported to Spindletop. Luckily, his transporter heard the news and turned the car around. Even though he never set paw on Spindletop soil, Leah managed to bilk $450 from one kindhearted donator.

Peanut
Nolan, a big Great Dane and American Bulldog mix, was brought to foster care in Austin, but Nolan quit eating and was taken to the vet. X-rays, bloodwork, a sonogram, biopsy and over a thousand dollars later, Nolan is here at the sanctuary and eating well. He is putting on weight, enjoying the sunshine and the herbal heartworm cure. Since his health is so challenged, neuter and conventional heartworm treatment are out of the question.

Feo, which is a dumb name for a beautiful dog, was located at the city of Alvin Animal Control. He was pulled fraudulently by Leah Purcell under the Reunion Rescue 501(c)(3) entity. He was redeemed and boarded for a few weeks until we could get set up and bring him here. After being neutered, he arrived safe and sound. His new name is Peanut.

We have applied for several grants to help us build kennels and underwrite the costs of running a holistic no kill sanctuary, but so far have been dependent upon the goodness of private donations. The immediate costs to set up and meet the current needs of these dogs has depleted the budget and we need help.

We have set up a system in which the dog friendly dogs can spend time on the porch with ball breaks in the yard.

A chip in has been set up to try and raise money to underwrite food and health care as well as dog supplies and tarps to cover the day areas.
