Here today, gone tomorrow: 100's of missing Harvey dogs from Houston SPCA

Three of the pets from Houston SPCA website...gone. Where are we?
Pit Bulls and Other Animals has been tracking the Ford Center dogs and other animals since Houston SPCA stormed in and took over the operation September 3, 2017. The highly funded public charity pushed out Best Friends and other first responders which raised huge concerns as HSPCA has a long history of killing pit bulls.

Social media went viral with reports of 40 some odd pit bulls that disappeared and were suspected of being killed by Houston SPCA. Best Friends created a petition begging Patti Mercer, director of Houston SPCA to keep the animals safe until owners could be reunited. Mercer refused. The HSPCA did post over 200 dogs on their website, but these dogs have mysteriously and suddenly disappeared.

We have placed several calls to Houston SPCA, but they seem to be very tight-lipped about the animals. We were referred to their media person Julie K who has not returned our calls. What is the big secret?

The only response we have been able to squeeze out of the tight-lipped Houston SPCA was this on their Facebook page:

At the time of this post, there were only a total of 47 dogs on the Houston SPCA website for adoption. Hundreds of animals disappeared from the Harvey link which is no longer offered on their site.

Where are these dogs? Were they, at best, shipped off to other shelters and rescues? With all of the horrors in the news regarding high-kill shelters and dangerous rescue organizations, we are concerned about these Beaumont, Texas animals and their well-being. Are they still alive?

Or...were they killed as has been the history at Houston SPCA to kill all pit bulls and other animals they deem not cute enough to raise huge funds like the present I Walk for Animals campaign. The Houston SPCA rakes in about $40 million a year as a public tax-exempt charity. This means these animals are publicly owned and the Houston SPCA must account for the whereabouts of these dogs and cats.

The Houston SPCA's number is 713-869-7722. These dogs and cats need to be accounted for and by law, the Houston SPCA owes an explanation for each and every animals they impounded.

No name pittie will die at Houston SPCA is a Facebook page dedicated to the animals missing or killed by the Houston SPCA.

We can only hope that the missing hundreds of dogs placed into the care of Houston SPCA which has always killed all pit bulls are safe. If only this institution placed a fraction of the effort they put into fundraising drives like their I Walk for Animals event and Chevron sponsored Run For a Reason, maybe there wouldn't be so many missing and dead pit bulls and other animals.

Houston SPCA screws the pooch at Beaumont's Ford Center

Katelyn Reid photo of Harvey rescue
Now that the dust has settled, or rather the levee leveled, boots on the ground first responders are recalling horrible experiences with Houston SPCA.

The Houston SPCA rolled into Beaumont the afternoon of Saturday, September 2nd and completely took over operations and animals being cared for by rescuers and volunteers who'd been sweltering in the hot and humid Ford Center for a week.

Katelyn Reid had organized the Ford Center operation and despite heat, flooding, fleas and other disaster and pests, the center was operating surprisingly efficiently. People from all over the United States had driven to Beaumont, many like Erika Pearce from Indianapolis who drove with her husband and a car filled with donated vet supplies and much needed medicine to help care for the incoming hundreds of dogs, cats and other animals.

These good people worked tirelessly and missed meals to save these animals before Houston SPCA took over and shut everyone out.

Shylah Salas was one of the hard-working animal lovers and has issued a gut-wrenching statement to the Houston SPCA:

To the HSPCA, I am NO LONGER a SUPPORTER of your organization. After our encounter at the Ford Center in Beaumont, I walked away feeling distraught towards your efforts which were UNPROFESSIONAL, UNORGANIZED and seemed to have LACKED SINCERITY.

Your employees, especially TRAVIS came off Ignorant & lacked administration skills. Grant it, yall did a wonderful job w/ organizing our supplies. HSPCA claimed to "take charge" yet instead of "CALLING A MEETING with THE COMMUNITY at FORD CENTER", the information was being transfered through word of mouth.

YOUR EMPLOYEES SLEPT COMFORTABLY IN your company van WHILE Sandra Kelly and I, along with 3 members, TENDED to a trailer carrying 8 DOGS (1 w/parvo) and a sick horse. NONE OF YOUR STAFF WAS AVAILABLE until 8am then held a "Staff Meeting" for an HOUR & A HALF while DOGS SAT WITH URINATION & DEFFICATION in their crates.

The ICU PATIENTS did not have REFILLED BAGS, a chicken was DEAD. Travis ordered an elderly man to leave the premises (who was granted permission to stay by Ford shelter original coordinator) because "This is not a camp ground!" How dare you tell this man that if his 12 cockerspaniels and 1 lab were not transferred or taken elsewhere, they will be EUTHANIZED AFTER 2 WEEKS when your policy stated " 30 days". How is 2 weeks a sufficient amount of time for OWNERS WHO LOST EVERYTHING but their lives to recover their beloved pets?!?

HOW DARE you transport 20+ dogs w/out providing proper documents or communication regarding their transfer. First of all, WHY TRANSFER these DOGS?? WHERE DID THE REST OF THEM GO? Yepp...we have proof of animals missing in crates and 1 who was walked at 8pm, but never returned. Why only start inventory POST TRANSFER of DOGS? And why were pups labeled aggressive & specific animals(excluding the sick) segregated?

HOW DARE YOU ASK FOR DONATIONS WHEN YOU ALREADY SEIZED 80% that EXISTED PRIOR to YOUR ARRIVAL. Why donate money when you are planning to euthanize after 2 weeks? Those donations sustain you for MONTHS.

I FELT YOU TREATED this NATURAL DISASTER as if it were another CORPORATE JOB!!
Your lack of communication, administration, and most importantly, Honesty screwed yall over. I cannot prove you were euthanizing, but what I do know was something felt shady when HSPCA arrived. I was BOOTS ON GROUND....

Leila Barry, another hard working Ford Center first responder adds this to Shylah's statement:

I was boots on the ground as well, and was amazed that after 6 hours, 6 you couldn't tell the rescuers how many dogs were there. Yeah Travis you know how to count money really well, but not dogs. And how were the 22 dogs flown outta state when all the airports WERE CLOSED AND UNDER WATER. and why was the single room under the pavilion STAFF ONLY . You have a lot of explaining to do HSPCA. I WANT TO KNOW.

When Shylah received a Houston SPCA plea for donation money, it was just too much and she posted her statement. These people see the orchestrated money raising campaigns all over social media by the Houston SPCA taking credit for their work and the lives these volunteers rescued from flooded homes and brought to the Ford Center. It is infuriating and it is nauseating. They are getting a dose of the way Houston SPCA does business...and to them, it's business. Pit bulls aren't good business and that's probably why you never saw a pit bull on their hit Animal Planet series Animal Cops: Houston.

Since 2012, we have been questioning Houston SPCA's high kill practices with our Facebook page No name pittie will die at Houston SPCA.

According to No Kill Houston "The Houston SPCA's Save Rate was only 35% the last time that they were honest and released their records to the public.  We believe that their Save Rate is drastically lower than this now."

World Animal Awareness Society also tried to get some answers from Houston SPCA in their
No Hope for Paws as Houston SPCA accused of killing dogs after Hurricane Harvey: Operation Houston video:

We will continue to write about and research the Houston SPCA and the goings on at Beaumont's Ford Center. Please contact Pit bulls and other animals with photos, videos and animal stories related to Harvey and the Beaumont Ford Center.

Imedia intern/reporter tries to join Reunion Rescue

After sabotaging the funding source of Reunion Rescue, Katie Kausch, the imedia ethics reporter dash intern, tried to join our pit bull rescue.

This is terrifying, considering the massive pit bull hate groups who endorse the lie-filled articles written by intern/reporter Katie Kausch and Rhonda Shearer.

We do not know Katie Kausch and first heard of her when she approached American Pit Bull Examiner by email (archived) representing herself as a reporter and leaving imedia ethics contact information.

Imedia ethics then tried to claim the girl was only a 17 year old intern and the contact was her private phone number.

The imedia page is host to known pit bull groups such as Beth Clifton who, along with longtime pit bull hate group blogger-husband Merritt Clifton, write pro-pit bull annihilation blogs and are the darlings of Craven Desires/Dawn James, dogsbite.org and hundreds of other pit bull hate groups which are sharing the imedia (Kausch/Shearer) article along with another inaccurate rage-motivated piece by the Cliftons on their anti-pit bull blog. The Cliftons killed their own pit bull and collect money to fund their efforts to shut down groups like Reunion Rescue and American Pit Bull Examiner which has saved thousands of dogs.

Followers and promoters of these anti-pit groups have staged country-wide pit bull adoptions to save
death row dogs and kill innocent animals that resemble pit bulls.

Why would any 'journalist' jump into bed with these groups who kill innocent dogs?

Even more alarming, why is imedia ethics trying to join our rescue group with 20 years of saving lives and never so much as a nail scratch?

Reunion Rescue has the reputation of housing the 'world's friendliest pit bulls' and the thought of one of these monsters managing to get their hands on our dogs, or any dog is horrifying!!

Please sign the petition asking for an investigation into the suspicious takedown of American Pit Bull Examiner and this entire frightening affair.

San Francisco pays out big bucks to kill pit bulls

Recent statistics revealed some disturbing information for America's beloved first native dog breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Fix San Francisco Facebook page has gathered some alarming and terrifying statistics which conjure up images from Denver's mass pit bull slaughter in which nearly 3500 family pets were removed from their homes and killed.

"It's hard to read page after page of Pit Bull-type dogs that were killed at Animal Care & Control San Francisco (SF ACC). "

"If San Francisco took a targeted, humane approach to addressing this issue through dog training classes, accessible and low-cost spay/neuter, other pet retention programs, effective return to guardians, effective adoption, foster, and rehabilitation programs (rather than breed specific legislation - BSL). THIS would end the mass killing of Pit Bull - type dogs at SF ACC and virtually end the killing of dogs at SF ACC ! In addition,The San Francisco SPCA puts only a few up for adoption (relaying a message that they are not good dogs) and recommends not using the "pit bull" label."

Even more alarming were the posted salaries of three individuals who run the city's shelter which is destroying nearly every pit bull dog that enters. Over half a million dollars is being paid to Rebecca Katz and her assistant, deputy director Kat Brown with Captain Vicki Guldbech.

Brown recently retired with benefits and is soon to be replaced with another highly paid official. According to a source with ties to SFACC, "they just hired Kat Brown's replacement as deputy director and apparently he is some "20-year suit" from city hall with ZERO shelter experience. Status Quo obviously wants to keep it that way."

While a half million with benefits for performing a city job might not seem bloated, when considering most of the inventory is being euthanized, the disbursement of these funds is questionable...and disturbing. When the director Rebecca Katz was heard laughing about killing puppies on a recent appearance on the Monty Show, we didn't get the joke. There is nothing funny about killing dogs and even less humor when it's learned how fat the pay stub is.

After the shelter's recent schedule closing on Sundays and Mondays, the employees have a much shorter work week. Ideally, this kind of money would buy a program with vision about solutions, not killing. When your hiree helped write the BSL adopted by the city's SB861, based on Kory Nelson's Denver legisilation.....well, you get what you pay for and in this case, that's a lot of dead pit bulls.

It's time for a change. It's time to stop the killing. Pit Bull Nation states that were there actually this number of 'behavior' statistics as reported by SFACC, there would be dire need for emergency assistance. Many of the dogs termed 'behavior' on San Francisco ACC statistics were owned pets which does not add up. Why do more 'behavior' cases seem to be located in San Francisco than elsewhere?

One fact is certain. There are groups like Fix San Francisco and San Francisco Pit Bull Watcher who are doing just that....we are watching you, San Francisco.

Hank is a senior former San Francisco death row dog

....and Hank is walking this Saturday for Reunion Rescue Strut Your Mutt. This Saturday, Best Friends is hosting the walk-a-thon for homeless pets from 8 to 1.....

Hank was on death row about to be killed way back in 2002. His dads Jerzy and Norm saved Hank through Reunion Rescue and he's been living the life ever since.

Hank, Jerzy and Norm will be strutting for homeless pets in San Francsico and everywhere this Saturday.

Please consider a small donation or better yet create your own virtual strut page by joining the Reunion Rescue pack and showing the world how wonderful our rescue dogs are!

Please help Reunion Rescue continue our lifesaving work and stay tuned! We will be posting photos and updates until and throughout the event so you can see other seniors and former San Francisco shelter dogs strutting their stuff!

Two San Francisco pittie puppies

Yesterday, Reunion Rescue received an urgent call from a young man in the peninsula near San Francisco. He'd found a puppy running loose in Pacifica and took the puppy to Peninsula Humane Society.

After hearing some stories from other locals about the strict assessment tests and euthanasia rates for pit bulls at PHS, he went back to the facility and got the puppy. He was told by PHS if the puppy did not pass their battery of assessment tests, the puppy could be euthanized.

Several articles have been written about Peninsula Humane Society regarding pit bull euthanasia practices. Reunion stepped up for this puppy and we are now trying to raise donations to take care of his vetting and neutering so he can enter our foster program.

The young man agreed to keep him overnight while Reunion Rescue networks for a foster home and makes arrangements for his neuter surgery. Please share this one's story and consider a small donation to help us care for him.

As soon as this one seemed to have a plan in place, we got another late night call. A gentleman in San Francisco telephoned asking for help. He's been left with an abandoned pit bull puppy. He was getting ready to take the puppy thought to be about four months old to San Francisco Animal Care and Control. SFACC has a longstanding career of euthanizing pit bulls.

Reunion Rescue has spent years trying to save pit bulls from this facility after having been banned in 2003. We have been able to save many like Allie, Faris, Buddy, Wylie, Maddie, Slappy, Ollie and tons of others scheduled to die at SFACC, but need help. Every dog we've saved before the ban was taken from SFACC death row and about to be euthanized.

Since Reunion Rescue's 2003 ban, we've had to rely on the help of finders and private citizens to save the lives of San Francisco dogs condemned to die at SFACC. Reunion Rescue depends solely on private donations to save lives. We need your support to continue this work.

Please share these two puppies' stories and consider a donation to help us save them and so many others.

Visit http:www.reunionrescue.com and click the donate button. We need funding to vet and neuter these puppies so they can join us in our San Francisco Strut Your Mutt event Saturday the 21st on Treasure Island.

Please join the puppies and Reunion Rescue in our walk for homeless pets everywhere. You can create a virtual walk for only $10 to help these and other dogs should you and your pet not be able to attend.

Please share: http://www.strutyourmutt.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=6335

We will be creating a Facebook page for the puppies with updates and photos, so keep tuned in for details.

Houston SPCA saves puppy but kills all pit bulls

Sapphire is a small chow mix puppy who was discovered by caring Houstonians. As reported by Pet Rescue Examiner, Saphhire was found "whimpering in the bushes on Kingwood and Garden Oaks Drive near a Starbucks in Houston earlier this week. A harness was strapped so tightly around her tiny body, it had embedded itself into the tender puppy's skin; oozing with a serious infection and covered in maggots."

What 31,935 people who 'like' the Houston SPCA on Facebook don't seem to realize is a sad fact about killing at this facility. Had Sapphire been a pit bull or pit bull mix puppy, she would have been killed as are all pit bulls at Houston SPCA.

The facility is marketing this puppy as an abuse case and asking for help from the community. While efforts to save any animal is applauded, why aren't all animals being cared for by the organization thriving on 10 million dollars per year in donations?

A page questioning the practices of Houston SPCA has been created on Facebook called
This is no name pittie killed at Houston SPCA
No Name Pittie Will Die at Houston SPCA.

We tried to save this beautiful stray Houston pit bull a couple of years ago whose grave error was to wander up to the wrong house for a drink of water. The man who furnished her with that last drink of water believed everything he saw on Houston SPCA Animal Cops, the long running television show. He believed that all animals were saved at this organization.

This pit bull along with hundreds, thousands of other pit bull dogs are routinely killed at this facility.

Please visit No Name Pittie Will Die at Houston SPCA and share your thoughts. The lawyer for animal abuser Leah Purcell and Spindletop has tried to put a stop to Pit Bulls and Other Animals and American Pit Bull Examiner articles about Houston SPCA and Spindletop abuse. We will continue to report any and all animal cruelty and abuse and the needless killing of America's native dog breed at this high dollar institution.

Sign the petition to fire Patti Mercer and investigate Houston SPCA: Until the killing stops, Houston SPCA is no better than Denver.
Stop the pit bull killing at Houston SPCA

Dad with baby create Nazi pit bull hate film

Labeled a public service announcement, a Dexter look-alike holding a toddler begins a nauseating attempt to ape Sarah McLachlan's heartfelt song and outreach to save shelter animals.

In a sickening plea to help homeless pets, the speaker mimic's McLachlan's ASPCA animal cruelty video in a perverted attempt to malign pit bull type dogs.

Entitled "Pit Bull PSA," the video employ's McClachlan's recording and elements of the ASPCA advertisement to push a message of hate and killing. Did the ASPCA and Sony/ATV Music provide permission to use McLachlan's music and lyrics for a pit bull hate 'PSA' message?

Highly doubtful. What kind of individuals would put together this kind of garbage in order to trigger hate for an already maligned animal? Certainly not any thinking person interested in education and solutions. Do these 'filmmakers' consider themselves creative?

http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/ec4753777b/pit-bull-psa

The production ends with a pit bull attack and one that's made its dogeared travels over every pit bull hate site on the internet, so no surprises. Word up, homey. Element of surprise and redemption set the bar distinguishing the men from the inept in the arts. One strives to leave the viewer leaving with something new, a broader concept. This is just a piece of hate-filled junk which leaves the audience walking away with a sad sense of a demoralized society and a taste of what liver cancer must feel like.

Maybe someone should call ASPCA and SONY to see if permissions were granted for the use of intellectual property in such a low brow effort.

14 pit bulls at San Francisco Animal Control

....but only these two available for adoption:

What will happen to the other 12 dogs which the public never sees?

Even the most overfilled stressed shelters are allowing their dogs to be publicized and networked. Even Lancaster and Devore, some of California's most high kill shelters allow their dogs to be promoted by animal advocates.

Nobody is promoting these dogs in the back rooms of one of the most affluent cities in the country.

What will happen to these dogs?

Miranda Devine pit bull buyback, a bloody scam

The reality
Miranda Devine suggests a "dog buyback" similar to what she calls a 'gun buyback.' Miranda Devine is a 'hard hitting journalist' according to the Daily Telegraph, but does 'hard hitting' refer to killing millions of family pets?

"A life for a life, you might call it," as she calls all 'pit bull-type dogs' 'inherently dangerous.'

This from someone who could not have possibly met the hundreds of thousands 'pit bull-type dogs' living with families as cherished pets and canine good citizens.

According to Miranda Devine, "They are responsible for a disproportionately large share of the most
Miranda Devine
serious dog attacks, and yet politicians continue to bow to the dog lobby. Enough. A dangerous dog is a weapon which can be every bit as lethal as a gun."

Devine suggests a 'buyback' in which she generously offers "an amnesty of a few weeks before the owner of every pit bull, or similar vicious breed, is required to relinquish their dogs to the local council."

So for this one person's tirade, hundreds of thousands of family pets would be mass slaughtered by a stranger, just because Miranda Devine suggested in her column.

"They can then choose a safer breed from the tens of thousands waiting for a new home in pounds and animal shelters. The owner can be recompensed by the taxpayer for the small costs incurred. The dangerous breed is then humanely put to sleep, while a dog on death row is saved."

What kind of breed would Miranda allow us to choose? Might we have a pug or a lab? What if that pug or lab had the dreaded 'pit bull-type dog' gene. Would that dog upon discovery be taken from the arms of his family to be destroyed. What kind of pet would Miranda Devine allow that family to choose in the dog's place? Which breed then, Miranda Devine?

This sort of senseless breed specific tirade does nothing but sell more papers. My parakeets have something to line the cage, but literally speaking, Miranda Devine's ill thought suggestion is good for nothing else but to catch bird poop.

Instead of lashing out at the multitudes who share their lives with bully breeds, why not put that energy into education and outreach? BSL for Dummies exposes the flaws in the system and one city's battle to overturn BSL which cannot and does not work.

Devine engaged controversy when she used a politician's decision to parent a child with a same sex partner arguing "that 2011 riots in England were the result of a "fatherless society" – that is, a society that increasingly accepts children growing up in gay and single mother households." Wow. here's hoping that family didn't adopt a pit bull puppy!

While tragic incidents have occurred which could easily have been prevented, no one is trying to avert change. There is need for great change, but it's been proved to not work through breed specific legislation.

Voice your opinions here and please sign the petition created to let Miranda Devine and Prime Minister Don Page know this sort of maneuver is only an attempt to sell newspapers. Take the pledge to stop Miranda Devine's 'buyback' scheme.
